Selecting the best five out of a five-time title-winning team like Mumbai Indians would be a tall order for any ardent fan. However as the cricketing world gears up for yet another exciting IPL season, here are our picks for the Top 5 Legendary Mumbai Indians Players In IPl History
Rohit Sharma
Excluding Rohit Sharma from the list would be a grave injustice not just to ‘Hit-man’ fans but the former Indian captain himself. Sharma has cemented his name as the tournament’s most successful captain with five trophies.
His accomplishments as a batsman need no formal introduction since there are only a few who can match his striking abilities. His dynamic batting has produced three double centuries in One-Day Internationals and his performance in short-format cricket is inferior to none.
Starting his IPL career at the now-defunct Deccan Chargers (2008-2010), the 37-year-old Indian captain played an instrumental role in leading the team to the title in 2009.
However, the right-handed batter has been in Mumbai’s side since 2011. Two years later, he was tasked to lead the squad for a brief stint that ultimately led to MI’s first title. His best knock came in 2012 when he scored 109*, amassing a total of 433 runs in total.
All in all, he has amassed over 6000 runs in IPL including two unbeaten tons in the 2012 & 2024 seasons.
He followed this up with four more titles for the team in 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020. Under his watch, the men in blue also racked up two Champions League T20 trophies, besting some of the best teams around the world.

Kieron Pollard
Fondly known as ‘Polly’ Kieron Pollard is an astute of the short format cricket. Though he is now off Mumbai’s IPL roster, the Trinidadian has been on MI’s side through the thick and thin and has seen the squad emerge victorious.
Not only can he smash the ball out of the park but his dynamic bowling and keen fielding have done wonders for the team through the years. While batting is his forte, his right arm medium bowling has also shined through. He is currently West Indies’ white ball captain. Over the course of his 12-year career with MI in the IPL, he has racked up more than 3000 runs along with 69 wickets. His best came in 2017 when he garnered a total of 385 runs however his strike rate peaked in 2020 where it crossed the 190 mark!
Acknowledging his contributions to the team’s fifth title triumph, the 37-year-old was named the ‘Super Striker of the Season’ in his last season- a befitting tag for the veteran.

Hardik Pandya
Hardik Pandy aka ‘Kung Fu Pandya’ as he is popularly known brought the fire and the fury of Surat to the Mumbai side when he joined the franchise back in 2015.
Exuding his natural swag and charisma, Pandya has been a vital player in scripting MI’s reign of dominance. The 31-year-old showed his caliber in his very first season. He walked out to bat against a solid CSK in 2015 when his team needed 30 runs off 12 balls.
Pandya announced that he was here to stay, thrashing the Chennai bowling line-up around the ground. He hit three sixes off four balls, scoring 21*(8) to see his side home.
Much like Pollard, Pandya has been vital to MI, credits to his all-round performance. His best season with the bat came in 2022 with Gujarat Titans when he racked up 487 runs with a best score of 87*.
However, his highest score of 91 was when he was on MI’s side. Following a brief two-season stint with the Titans, Pandya returned back home to Mumbai last year. He serves as Mumbai’s captain.
Lasith Malinga
Arguably one of the best 20-over bowlers the world has ever seen. Just a glimpse of his signature ‘axe-murderer’ bowling action would get any loyal fan hooked on to him.
Credits to his unorthodox action and precise toe-rattling yorkers, the Lankan legend has had major success in the T20 format. He single-handedly changed the landscape of death over bowling.
Since his IPL debut in 2009, Malinga has racked up 170 scalps from 122 matches. His best came in the 2011 season where he picked off a staggering 28 wickets with a stellar BBM of 5/13!
He won the purple cap in the respective season following his blistering performance. The 41-year-old is also the first bowler in the IPL to rack up 100 wickets, that too he did that in 2013!
Even the ‘God of Cricket’ Sachin Tendulkar acknowledged the Lankan’s greatness, describing Malinga as a significant cog in MI’s game plan.
Though his performance dipped in the later half of his IPL career, the Mumbai side couldn’t let go of his expertise and hauled in him as the team’s bowling mentor in 2018.
Jasprit Bumrah
31-year-old Jasprit Bumrah is undoubtedly the finest pacer India has ever produced. In an era dominated by batsmen, Bumrah owing to his unorthodox bowling style has proved to be a game-changer not only for India but for his IPL team, Mumbai Indians.
The Ahmedabad-born recently joined Tendulkar and Virat Kohli in the elite list after being named 2024 ICC Cricketer of the Year. He started his IPL career with Virat Kohli as his first victim. From there on, he built on, closely working under Malinga to learn the tricks of the trade.
Nicknamed ‘Boom Boom Bumrah,’ his spells in 2017 (2/26 vs RPSG) and 2019 finals (2/14 vs CSK) won not only the hearts of the fans but showed just why he is a player who loves pressure.
