Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals is one of the most applauded IPL teams based in Delhi. The franchise was founded in the year 2008 and bought by the GMR Group and the JSW Sports for US $84 million. 

One half of the Delhi Daredevils was sold by GMR to JSW Sports in March 2018 for ₹550 crore, which is about US$64 million.

The team was previously named the Delhi Daredevils but changed its name to the Delhi Capitals in 2018.  Parth Jindal, co-owner and chairman of the team, explained why they changed their name: “Delhi is the power center of the country; it is the capital, so the name Delhi Capitals fits.”

The first captain of the team was Virender Sehwag, who led them in 52 games, more than any other Delhi captain. It was the most games Delhi won under any captain, with 28 wins.

The Capitals played their first IPL final in 2020, with Shreyas Iyer as captain. They lost to the Mumbai Indians. Besides this, the team has been a part of every Indian Premier League season since 2008. In 2008 and 2009, the squad made it all the way to the semifinals.
