Hailing from the ‘God’s Own Country’ is India’s explosive wicket-keeper batsman, Sanju Samson. The right-hand batsman is currently looking to surpass his coach Gautam Gambhir as the men in blue take on the English squad in their third T20I battle.
92 runs is all it requires for the 30-year-old Keralite to exceed Gambhir’s feat in T20I. Since his 2015 international debut, ‘Sanju’ has amassed a total of 841 runs off of 39 matches. And 92 runs more and he’ll become the 12th highest runs scorer for India in the short format.
Much like last year and the year prior to that, Samson will handle the captaincy duties at Rajasthan. The batter boasts over 4000 runs in the Indian Premier League and has racked up an impressive three 100s to his name in the tournament. His first season as the captain of the Royals in 2021 saw him score 484 runs, showcasing a blistering 63-ball 119 against Punjab Kings in his first IPL match as captain.
His accolades as a cricketer doesn’t end there. To this date, he is the first Indian wicket keeper to score a century in a T20I. If that’s not enough, he is also the first Indian to score two consecutive centuries in T20 Internationals.
