About his retirement he disclosed that during playing time his younger child accidently kicked him in his eyes, by that he started to lose his vision which propelled him to take this hard decision. He said it was hard but he couldn’t continue more with that and left cricket.
ABD made his IPL debut in 2008, he has played for Delhi and Royal Challengers Bengaluru teams in IPL. He has played total 184 matches scoring 5162 runs at the strike rate of 151.68 with three hundreds and 40 fifties. Abd was considered as the most destructive batsman during his playing career.
Its been four years and he has disclosed that he had recovered from the injury and it instincts him to play the game for his childrens. He said he will be seen in World Championship of Legends, set to begin in July 2025. He has started his workout once again.
He went on stating that he is been actively playing cricket with his sons in garden, which inspired him to take up the sport once again. De villiers will be leading the South Africa legends team, where his former team members Herschelle Gibbs, Dale Steyn, and Imran Tahir will be part of the team.
