The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is set to begin on march 22, and all the teams are fully prepared for the upcoming tournament. Fans can expect impressive performances from every team this season. Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will take the field with significant changes. The franchise has appointed star batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad as the captain for the upcoming season.
Under the leadership of MS Dhoni, CSK has won the IPL title five times. Although MS Dhoni retired from international cricket after the 2019 World Cup, he continued to play in the IPL. However, in 2024, he stepped down from captaincy, leading to a major transition within the team. At the time, CSK appointed Ruturaj Gaikwad as his successor but the team failed to qualify for the playoffs. Despite this, the franchise has shown faith in him, officially announcing Ruturaj Gaikwad as the captain for IPL 2025.
A video is going viral on social media in which Ruturaj Gaikwad receives a grand welcome. The video includes a reference to King from the film Chhaava, starring actor Vicky Kaushal. In the video, a child is seen carrying a CSK helmet and handing it over to Ruturaj as he enters wearing the team’s kit. This moment has brought immense joy to Chennai Super Kings fans.
CSK has included several explosive players in their squad for IPL 2025, and they have the potential to deliver outstanding performances in the upcoming season.
Rituraj remarks after becoming CSK captain : Gaikwad said in a video posted on Chennai Super Kings social media, “This is a great honour, but more than that, it is a big responsibility. However, I am actually quite relaxed because of the kind of group we have every one is very experienced, so there is not much for me to do. Also in my team, I have Mahi bhai, Jaddu Bhai, and Aju bhai, who are my favourite captains. There is nothing to worry about, I am just excited to take on this role”.
Now, the team’s responsibility is on Rituraj Gaikwad. He made his debut for CSK in 2019 and has played 52 matches so far, scoring 1,797 runs at a strike rate of 135.52. The star player has registered one century and 14 half centuries. In the previous season, he scored 590 runs in 16 matches.
