Punjab Kings

One of the most enthusiastically supported Indian Premier League teams, the Punjab Kings (PBKS) hail from Mullanpur, Mohali, Punjab. They were formerly known as Kings XI Punjab (KXIP). 

The team was founded in the year 2008 as Kings XI Punjab. It is currently owned by Ness Wadia, Mohit Burman, Preity Zinta, and Karan Paul. The four of them jointly bought the franchise for Rs 304 crore (about US$76 million).

The team came in third place in the first season, led by Yuvraj Singh. KL Rahul was bought for 11 crore rupees in 2018 and quickly became the team’s top run scorer. KL Rahul led the team as captain in 2020 and 2021. 

In 2021, the team changed its name to the Punjab Kings. Ness Wadia said that the team’s name was being changed so that they could “relook at things” and start over after 13 IPL seasons.

Chris Gayle has been a tremendous asset to the team. Gayle was bought at the very end of the 2018 auction. He put up some average T20 scores and went on to become the team’s main batsman. His 41 matches have yielded over 1300 runs.

During the 2023 IPL season, Trevor Bayliss was the team’s head coach. Now, Ricky Ponting has been appointed the coach for the upcoming season. The 2025 IPL auction saw the highest bid for a player in the tournament’s history, ₹26.75 crore (US$3.1 million) paid by the team for Shreyas Iyer, making it the year’s most notable event.

Now, this year has a lot of surprises planned, and we can not wait for them.
